    LB Mitchell remains a 'skin

Redskins | Mitchell Agrees - posted at KFFL (http://nfl.kffl.com)
22:28 PT: Mark Maske, of the Washington Post, reports the Washington Redskins have reached an agreement with unrestricted free agent LB Kevin Mitchell (Redskins). The deal Mitchell’s agent Gary Wichard and the Redskins are finalizing is a one-year, $680,000 including a signing bonus of $25,000. Mitchell will only count $475,000 against the cap in 2003.

    Mitchell Stays With Redskins

The Washington Redskins have agreed to a one-year contract to retain reserve linebacker Kevin Mitchell, sources said. Keeping Mitchell, an unrestricted free agent, bolsters the depth on defense and gives them insurance as starting middle linebacker Jeremiah Trotter rehabilitates his injured knee from last season.

The club also tried to sign unrestricted free agent defensive tackle Michael Myers yesterday, but he finished a visit to Redskins Park without signing the team's minimum-salary contract proposal. Club officials remained hopeful of signing him as he returned home to weigh similar offers from the Redskins and Dallas Cowboys.

The Redskins and Mitchell's agent, Gary Wichard, were completing the paperwork on a deal apparently worth $680,000, including a signing bonus of $25,000. Mitchell would count $475,000 against the salary cap next season under an NFL rule that gives a team a rebate when it signs a veteran player to a minimum-salary deal
