View Full Version : As of today..what do you think this team still needs?

After calming down, in light of the sabres getting Rivet, what else does this team honestly need to make you comfortable about the upcoming season?

- I think there's still a need for another veteran d man. Rivet and Spacek will be the unquestioned leaders of the D, but with Sekera, Webber and Paetch all vying for spots on the final pairing, another vet is needed to break up that inexperience.

Suggestions: FA: Numminen, Jason Smith, Steve Modatdor Trade: Kevin Bieksa (VAN), Chris Campoli (NYI), Ryan Suter (NASH)

- I also think a distributer -type center is needed..Connolly doesnt count imo, and the Goose and Mair are grinders.

Suggestions: FA: Mike Peca, Trade: Patrick Marleau (SJ), Antoine Vermette (OTT/RFA)

now we all know the sabres are cheap bastards, but does anyone here have any suggestions, possibly that align with mine, that could actually be feasable for this team??

Out of those Dmen I would take Smith or Teppo

Out of the forwards Peca but not really huge on him either.

Marleau is a weak pussy. Vermette doesn't appear to be much better than some of the young guys we have.

True about Marleau...what other centers do you think would help this team then?

Peca signed with CBJ today. I would like one more centerman, preferably a defensive specialist/pk/faceoff man.

A name that intrigues me is Marty Reasoner.

I think the Sabres have a lot of great weapons. They need to have the players play to their level they are capable of. The tools are there. Vanek needs to earn his hefty paycheck and take it to the next level. Lalime needs to play well enough to be able to rest Miller when needed. If they do not move Max then he needs to play the way he did a couple years ago. The young defensmen and Stafford need to take it to the next level to add depth with postive results like a couple of years ago where the Sabres could score on with any line out there. Connolly needs to play a full season without getting hurt. The tools are in place for the Sabres to do well. The question is will the talent they have play to what we expect them to.

I think if we add a Forward it should be a vet, we got alot of young up comers we need a role player like Mike Greir was when he was here, I think bringing in 2 local boys for final stints with there home town would not be bad at all
Kevin Adams at forward
Aaron Miller on D
No way do i bring Teppo back, and i think Paetsch goes to Portland, i wouldnt mind Pratt as the 7th defensman either or having in in Portland two

paetsch is good enough to make the team. teppo is going to keel over any day now

I'll reiterate what I said previously (http://www.billszone.com/fanzone/showthread.php?p=2507251#post2507251), I'd like to see more. Specifically, another beefy, tough D-man, and dump a couple of the midget forwards for a couple who can check and stand up for themselves. It's a bit sad when the shortest forward on the team (Kaleta) is also the toughest.

...weber is the man.

Weber is also made of space-age unbreakable material!

I'd imagine with Rivet on the team, Reich wouldn't have been standing after that. Not like the other pussies on the team that don't stand up for their teammates (i.e. Laraque hit on Patches).

Paestch was a huge dissapointment last year but I think he is definitely good enough to make the team.

I agree with that...everyone loves weber on here but i just dont see how he could beat out a guy with more NHL service like paestch with the experience this team sorley needs on D

I thought he kicked his ass pretty good last year. Paestch was a big disappointment IMO. What we really need is a another good faceoff man.

he won't be the shortest for long- it's likely that Gerbe will get called up at some point this coming season, definitely by the following season.

I'd like to see Stephane Yelle maybe brought in.

Maybe a depth dman like Steven Montador.

I would love to have Chris Campoli on this team. But maybe that's because he was a friend of mine in high school.

I did this on my NHL08 game, I did best lines and this is what it came up with.

what do you think? I like these lines.

Your 2008-2009 Buffalo Sabres?

Vanek - Roy - Afinogenov
Hecht - Connolly - Pommers
Paille - Goose - Kotalik
Klatsy - Mair - Stafford
MacArthur - Peters

Spacek - Sekera
Weber - Rivet
Lydman - Tallinder
Paetsch

Miller - Lalime
