Rochester that is....
I know this is not Sabres related, but I thought it was pretty cool. Plus he is a former Sabre.
Rory Fitzpatrick is coming home again.
The Irondequoit native signed a two-year, free-agent contract with the NHL's Florida Panthers on Thursday, but he's well aware he's expected to be the veteran leader on defense for the Rochester Americans.
Fitpatrick, 33, has no problem with that, either. He is prepared to guide the Panthers' prospects on defense while at the same time proving the NHL hasn't passed him by.
He missed half of last season because of a sports hernia, undergoing surgery in January.
The injury was a factor in him losing his job on the Philadelphia Flyers defense. When he returned after surgery, he finished the season with the AHL's Philadelphia Phantoms.
"I'm confident in my ability that I can play in the NHL," he said, "whether as a call-up or a permanent position."
The Panthers wanted a veteran on the blue line and believe Fitzpatrick is the perfect fit.
