6:04 PT: The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports the Green Bay Packers are considering putting a waiver claim in for free agent QB/DB Eric Crouch (Rams). Crouch played quarterback in college but served primarily as a defensive back last year with the St. Louis Rams.

The Green Bay Packers are one of the teams giving consideration to making a waiver claim on former Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Eric Crouch.

Released by the St. Louis Rams from the reserve-retired list on Friday, Crouch will become a free agent if another National Football League team doesn't claim him on waivers by the end of the business day Wednesday. If more than one team claims him, he goes to the one with the lowest winning percentage from last year.

Agent Jim Steiner said he had had brief discussions with the Packers about Crouch, but he did not know whether they were going to make a waiver claim today. If Crouch clears waivers, any team can sign him as a free agent....

GREEN BAY, Wis. (April 23, 2003 7:54 p.m. EDT) - The Green Bay Packers claimed Eric Crouch off waivers from the St. Louis Rams, and said Wednesday they will give him a shot at quarterback.

Crouch won the 2001 Heisman Trophy as a quarterback at Nebraska, but sat out last season after the Rams drafted him in the third round and tried to convert him into a wide receiver.

Crouch forfeited his signing bonus after training camp last year, saying he'd rather retire if he couldn't be a quarterback in the NFL....more (http://www.sportserver.com/football/nfl/story/865513p-6045886c.html)
