There's a heavy Original Six flavour to the Detroit Red Wings nine-game pre-season schedule released Thursday.
Montreal, Toronto and Boston will all be paying visits to the Joe Louis Arena along with the Atlanta Thrashers and Buffalo Sabres.
The Canadiens will open the Wings' schedule with a visit Sept. 24 (7:30 p.m.) followed by the Bruins (7:30 p.m., Sept. 26), Thrashers (5 p.m., Sept. 28), Maple Leafs (7:30 p.m., Oct. 3) and Buffalo (5 p.m., Oct.5).
Though the regular season schedule won't be released until Wednesday, Wings officials confirmed they'll open the season at home against the Toronto Maple Leafs Oct. 9.
