Good move for years 1-6 or so. By the end of the contract, they'll be paying almost $8 million a year for a 40 year old player. That's way too long.

btw it's embarrassing to this FO that they're paying only $600k per year more for Lecavelier than we are for Vanek.

Lecavalier certainly puts up great numbers, but him and St. Louis are about 80% of the offense on that team too... so it's easy to get fooled by that.

Not saying I wouldn't love to have him or anything, but I think Vanek can be where he is in the near future.

I hope you're right but first he has to get his confidence back. He hit that cold streak last year and never really broke out of it.

I think it is yet another ridiculous contract. Sure he is a good player but way too much cash.

In the NHL per year is not as important as the total amount of the deal, since it is all guarenteed.

Giving any player $85 million with a right of first refusal over any move (even waivers) is 10X insane than the Vanek deal.

Stupid contract, by a stupid league. The NHL continues to show how stupid it is with each move.

                  I bet it's front loaded.

I'm pretty sure NHL teams aren't allowed to front-load contracts like NFL teams do.

It does not matter if it is or not since it is guarenteed.

They are allowed to front load (or back load) the deals if they want, but are limited as to by how much they can do so.

"Lecavalier will earn $10-million per season in salary and bonuses for the first six seasons of the deal, before dropping to $8.5-million in 2016-2017, $4-million in 2017-2018, $1.5-million in 2018-2019 and $1-million and 2019-2020."
