    A GREAT look at Whitner

    Look what I found.

The official source for NFL news, video highlights, fantasy football, game-day coverage, schedules, stats, scores and more.

A very cool look at the Bills-Giants game last that started oh-so-promising. Whitner was mike'd up as was Lynch and both provided some sweet sound bytes and action. Whitner had a camera dedicated to him and you see a few great stops by him as well as some he'd much rather forget.

At times, he's dominant, at other times last year, liable, but in either case, he's a leader. And he'll only get better.

****- whitner takes the penalty on the punt then lets jacobs run right by him for a TD and the longest run of his career. Why is everyone so quick to run to this guy's defense?

OK, that game was the coldest I've ever been in my life.

Whitner was in on 2 of the 4 stops in the goal line stand. Of course, he was getting owned by a WR block on the play that set up the goal line stand....

Both Jacobs and Bradshaw outran Whitner for long TD's in that game.

The Jacobs run may have been one of the worst plays in his career, although I think it looks so bad because Whitner expected a LB that dove at him (couldn't see who) to slow or stop him so he took an angle to where Jacobs would be at half or less speed. When the LB obviously whiffed and Jacobs was at full speed instead, Whitner was surprised and couldn't transition into the proper angle.

Not an excuse, just an explanation. Also, he tipped the punt. You can hear it.

Not sure what Whitner's assignment was on the Bradshaw play, but he was on the near side and Bradshaw burned us on the opposite sideline. I don't know if he should have got him or not.

after watching that video, I can see where some of the leadership talk is coming from. He does seem to encourage the team and try to keep them in the game- that's a much better example of leadership than taking in a houseguest or shooting his mouth off to the media.

Still, his play leaves a LOT to be desired.

Oh please...Whitner took a bad angle on the Jacobs run that is obvious. Everyone has bad plays every now and then. The trick is to have more good ones than bad ones and Whitner does that. What do you want some superhero robot that never makes a mistake? Lighten up.

I know your not new so I dont know why you said that. Its rare that someone defends him. A month, theres about 14 posts trashing him. Most are from you as well as any other bills player but still.

Re: A GREAT look at Whitner

                        My observations from this vid:

1.) Edwards slightly overthrew Parrish. Must have put everything he had into it

2.) Blame Whitner all you want on that run by Jacobs but he went through that line unmolested by the front 7. He took a bad angle but he could just have easily got ran over too. Jacobs was a full on sprint by the time he got to whitner.

3.) Bradshaw and Jacobs out ran whitner but they also out ran Mcgee (one of our fastest players). What is your point, OP?

I'll say this...Whitner sucks this year, hes only got himself to blame. It's time to end the excuses and it's time for results. You want beef on the front 7? You got it. Pro bowler DT and a super bowl ring wearing LB. If this front office drafted well, this defense should be stellar.

We drafted McCargo, Williams, Whitner, Simpson, Youboty, Posluszny, and McKelvin. That's a good 1/2 of the defense from draft picks. If our defense doesn't do well, the blame falls squarely on the draft choices of the FO as well as the DC. Agree???

All I can say is that I saw a lot of positives from Whitner that game and am able to understand the negatives.
