Camp starts tomorrow and we don't have Hardy or McLovin signed?

No.

This is year it is difficult to sign picks due to the status of the CBA.

Nope. I'll start worrying a week from today.

Probably wont be signed till next week. Holdouts are going to be record high this year.

no, the Pats haven't signed Mayo yet, either.

it sucks because they're missing valuable camp time, but it's become the norm in the NFL. Hopefully the next CBA will have a rookie cap to eliminate or at least reduce these situations.

I'm not worried. My brother played golf with a guy who has a friend whose wife is friends with a woman whose husband is a garbage man. He was talking to a janitor when he was emptying the dumpster at RWS and the janitor told him he overheard Russ talking to these players agents when he was cleaning Russ' office and the players should be signed and in camp within days.

They did today (http://www.boston.com/sports/football/patriots/reiss_pieces/2008/07/pats_sign_mayo.html), and he will be there after the first practice of camp.

Though there might be a few holdouts, you will see most picks signed within the first couple days of camp. I don't expect any more protracted holdouts than prior years.

With the ruling a couple days ago on the CBA that teams can still guarantee 4th year money even with the owner's opting out, it removed a big obstacle to signing players. That, more than anything, was making teams/agents of 1st and 2nd round picks to wait, since it is a common method for teams to guarantee those players a certain amount of money while still fitting them within the rookie pool allotment. Since it has been ruled on, you will see a flurry of signings in the next couple days.

Considering less than half of the 2nd round picks and less than a third of the 1st round picks have signed, no. It is a little early to be worried.

Why would you be worried? When was the last time we had a long hold out? The Bills sign picks based on slotted contracts. I expect McKelvin to sign today now.

The reason why our top 3 picks have not signed is because the pick ahead of them has not signed.

Now with Mayo signed, McKelvin will be done soon.

Again, the big holdout was the uncertainty of whether 4th year guarantees would be allowed with the CBA opt-out. The NFLPA filed a expedited grievance to have this ruled on, and the arbitrator ruled that it was something that was still allowed, in spite of the opt out.

With that ruling out of the way, this is no different than any other year. This year was a little slow for picks in the first couple rounds, but now the pace will pick up and most will sign in the next few days.

The Chiefs have now signed (http://www.kcchiefs.com/news/2008/07/24/chiefs_agree_to_terms_with_t_branden_albert/) Branden Albert, who was the 15th overall selection.

With Mayo (10th), Albert (15th) and Chris Williams (14th) all signed, the contracts for McKelvin (11th), Ryan Clady (12th) and Jonathan Stewart (13th) should be done soon. They should slot right in.

The link is updated somewhat, it does not list Mayo or Albert as signed, but does list Cherilus as done.

Royal, also a wide receiver, will give the Hardy camp all the information they need in negotiating what they deem a fair deal. I'd be surprised if Hardy couldn't find agreeable numbers to make it to camp on time.

Good news for Hardy. Hopefully he's signed today or tomorrow.

If McKelvin wants to start, he better make sure to be in camp as soon as possible because I just don't see him beating out Greer just yet.
