Sporting News Radio: McKelvin Wants 5

Was listening to the radio just now.

Said the holdup with McKelvin is that he wants to sign for five years, while the Bills want to do a six-year deal.

Obviously, that's been the hold-up, as his salary and guaranteed money is for the most part now slotted.

If no resolution in 48 hours..rock-paper-scissors to settle it !

Check first to see if McKelvin can even say it, before playing the game for the contract length.

All he has to do is sign a 6yr contract with a void in the final year!

Given their recent history of re-signing CB's and re-signing 1st round draft picks, the longer they can lock him up, the better.

However, 5 years seems like more than enough time. Get it done already.

What would the point of doing that be?

The Bills probably will back down eventually, but you can't blame them for taking a shot. Generally, rookie players don't earn their first year salary in terms of production. It often takes until their third year untill their fully settled in. McKelvin may start this year, but he's probably not going to play like a 4 or 5 million dollar player for a while. NFL teams feel like they just get a player trained, and he jumps ship for big bucks elsewhere. They would like to get a little more return on their investment before they have to compete on the open market.
I've made up my mind. Don't confuse me with the facts.

I'm the most reasonable poster here. If you don't agree, I'll be forced to have a hissy fit.

I'm just saying, It a good thing the Bills are the ones holding this up and not Leodis. Leodis is probably at camp with his cleats on waiting for the go ahead.

Leodis will probably be on the field soon.

At least he didn't say he wants a 3 or 4 year deal. That would mean he can't wait to go to a contender...

Re: Sporting News Radio: McKelvin Wants 5

Last year the Jet went through this same thing with Darrelle Revis. They held out for 6 years and he missed camp until mid-August. The Jets finally got their 6 years, but they ended up overpaying to get it and the deal included voidables that means it really is a 4 year deal with big options for the Jets to buy the 5th and 6th years.

Very few players are doing 6 years anymore, and the ones that are end up having an easy voidable so it really is a 5-year deal. The Bills should just do a straight 5 year deal and be done with it.

But that's logical and easy. That's not how we roll in Buffalo. The path of least resistance is for suckers.

If he ends up being any good, he'll just hold out of training camp in a couple years anyway.
