    Hey HISTORIAN !

After watching my favorite uniform on the field again,
I was wondering, and maybe you know.
Where did the standing logo come from, or who created it?
Either an artist came up with it, or they got it from somewhere?
I've never heard the story behind it.
    Any trivia fans know?

The only thing I can tell you is that I'm pretty sure they adopted it in 1962 because it was the same as the symbol of the city.

I really like the bright blue multi-striped jerseys too.

Kinda reminds me of Dennis Shaw to JD Hill, lol.

One thing I agree with you about. The throwbacks should be your normal uniform

I agree, they must of gotten it from some city symbol,
this is a pretty good trivia question huh?
Those uni's scream FOOTBALL, OLDSCHOOL football!
I love them! I wear my throwback all the time, with my
white hat with standing buffalo on it, and get great compliments.
I'm happy we get to see them twice a year, that was very cool
        by whoever made that decision.
Hope they keep that tradition, until maybe even going back to them fulltime!
I know the younger fans don't like them though, so doubt it.
But twice a year is cool!
        GO BILLS!

the only problem is that the bills are like 1-7 or something ridiculous like that wearing those throwbacks. i agree they look cool, but for whatever reason, we dont' win with them.

I'm 22 so I'm not sure if you'd classify me as "younger" but I absolutely LOVE the throwbacks.

They're second only to the Charger's powder blues IMO.

That's cool, I really didn't mean EVERY young fan, some of you have good taste
And powder blue uni's do nothing for me, they look wimpy to me, but a lot
              of people like them.

Well, we did WIN BACKtoBACK AFL CHAMPIONSHIPS in those uni's!
I think that's better than any uni we've worn since.
Coming close 4 IN A ROW was some good years also.

                  Re: Hey HISTORIAN !

Check out the various logos over the years here. This page has pictures of every team's uniform year by year. And here are links to more AFL Bills photos and the 1965 Bills.

I know the Bills were named after the Buffalo Bills of the AAFC from the 40's. That team was originally the Buffalo Bisons and then changed their name to the Bills. When the AAFC merged with the NFL, the NFL only wanted to add a few teams. The team was disbanded even though they had a better record and better attendance than the Colts, who were included.

The name Buffalo Bills came from a local barbershop quartet that had a local radio show in the 40's.

The Bills didn't use the standing red buffalo until 1962. I have no idea what prompted the change or who originally designed it though.
