I've been fooling myself. Up to this point I've considered Dick as Marv junior. They both came to the Bills with less than stellar pasts. They're both cerebral types.
I guess my expectations have been a repeat of the Kelly, Thurman, Andre, Bruce, Talley era Bills.
But, I've realized that it's the above mentioned talent that made Marv so special. AND... And this is a big and... It wasn't so much Marv's coaching ability that brought success as it was his recognition of talent and how to coddle it.
I think Dick has those same talents... BUT... I just can't see the same enthusiasm that Marv possessed. In other words... Could you ever see yourself hearing a phrase like "Where would you rather be than right here, right now" from Dick?
Who knows. Maybe history will show that Dick has his own unique attributes that brings him success. But at this point, I have to say that he's no Marv!
