    The Mcgahee Theory...

    feel free to disagree..

if we had not picked up Gary, then we still would have had an obvious need for a back up running back..

now, gary signed a 2 year deal. and i am assuming that Mcgahee is going to sit this year. gary has an incentive laden contract. he could easily be cut next year.

WM sits this year. Travis plays great again this year. Gary backs him up.

Next year, Gary is gone. WM is the back up if Henry has that great season we are expecting.

Our RB situation is solved for a long time.

When it comes down to it, you can all speculate that TD SHOULD have taken this guy or that guy, but obviously, they were not rated as high as our pick was, in the eyes of the FO. It was also stated that WM was the number one guy in the draft on the bills board prior to the injury. Obviously, the bills docs like the odds of his recovery, and still feel like they are getting a top 5 pick and bringing him into a situation that he doesnt have to rush into.

i am not as shocked now as i was. we got a good player for free. TD has stated, if you cant handle competition for your job, then your on the wrong team. Nobodies job is secure. Perform or get out. I like the attitude. That is how you build a winner.

worst case scenario, is that we got a guy who doesnt ever fully recover to be a stud from his good awful injury.. remember what we used to pick him with though.. a free pick.. a pick we maybe should have never even had, if it were not for TD's good work to get something for nothing.

best case scenario is that we have a Ricky Williams type situation, where WM returns to the form that would have made him a top 5 pick.. and the year after next, we are looking at WM as our starter, and trading TH for 2 first rounders like Miami gave up for RW...

to say the draft is no good because of one shocking pick though is just totally jumping the gun. TD has 9 starters from his last 2 drafts.. i dont think all 9 starters were first round picks.

funny how bills fans love TD so much, then after this pick they all question his ability to draft, which he has done so well for so long.

There are too many scenarios that can be played ot. Right now I just am ticke dat all of these TD back stabbers. It sickenss me that a guy who goes to bat for us everyday and hasn't done squat to prove he isn't a capable GM. I am optimistic I guess but I am not a pessimist, We have 6 more picks or more and I have full faith in TD like everyone should have! Go Bills!

no one is questioning his ability to draft. I love TD, he's done an amazing job. That doesn't mean I can't quesiton this pick, when there were other players that could have helped us more immediately.

Maybe it will work out, I'll be the first one to be happy about it.

I seem to remember a certain someone questioning TD when sam adams deal took a little longer than expected...

No one is down on TD, I remember someone(not naming any names) cursing him for not signing Sam Adams. You just gotta admit that it is a shocking pick to say the least. I see it as 100% win-win for both parties.

Keep in mind that not all of these 9 starters would necessarily be starters on good teams.

Still, I agree with your theory. Unless TD has a trade already worked out, I see it playing out something like that. Although, I'm not sure TH will bring 2 first rounders. . .
Still searching for that offensive rhythm.

I don't agree with the 'free pick' theory though... While I understand what you're saying, a first round pick is a first round pick - whether we thought it'd be there or not.

Also, I don't even question picking McGahee so much, its that it really is just about the last position we needed help at...

That said, other than the Lindell move, TD hasn't done anything to make me doubt his judgement.

JJ.. they obviously felt he was the best guy on the board.. to trade down and take him take two to tango.. grossman was gone, and GB was the only one i thought that might want to trade up.. they got the guy they felt was the best available.

it is not like TD drafted Brayton, Pace, or Nismaonga Assumuncher in the first round.. that drafted a guy that should/would have gone in the top 3 picks at #23..

                      Bottom line:

Would Steinbach put us over the hump to win a Superbowl???no, Would he play this year??? not much

Could McGahee put us over the hump to win a SB??? YES, if he recovers 100% he will go over 2000 yards behind our O-line.(assuming we commit to the run)

                      This is a great pick.

The doctors gave the green light so the Bills choose the best player. If the doctors are correct then he was the best player. So the only person that I guess should be questioned are the doctors. How is McGahee at catching passes maybe he can lineup as the third wide receiver when Henry is at running back?

I'm realy surprised. I thought a win/win/win situation was evolving involving three teams. The Bills, McGahee and the Raiders.
We draft WM at 23 so he gets his 23 $, then we work a deal with the Raiders so they get WM and give us a late first rounder and another pick later. We get the guy we want at much later money, plus another pick. The Raiders still have a late first, plus WM, and WM gets 23 money.
Now I'm of the mind that the Bills feel pretty confident about his knee. If his knee is good by October, we got a steal, and we can deal with our RB situation in our own time.

after seeing the NUMEROUS other bad picks made by teams thus far.. our pick of mcgahee is just a case of Best available player..

at least we didnt draft a 7th round LB in the 2nd..

When it comes right down to it, we had no pressing need for any one position, so obviously if he recovers fully he's a probowler, and you cant have too many probowlers on your team.
                              Beware the sack master!
