Working on a story that will be on Scout.com tomorrow and trying to get some interviews today, but I can jump the gun a little bit in favorite Bills forum and tell you multiple sources say that Jason Peters will NOT get a new deal in 2008, whether he reports or not.
Buffalo News Bills beat reporter Mark Gaughn also writes this morning “The Bills have had no recent contact with Peters' representatives, and the team remains firm in its stance that Peters will not get a new deal this season.”
Several reports say Peters has had no contact with the Bills since learning he won’t get a new deal this year, and is planning on sitting out the Bills opener againstSeattle and might not report at all until week 10.
A lot of people in here seem to think if Peters will report, the Bills will be open to discussions on tearing up his current deal and working on a new one. But the Bills stance is strong that Peters has three years on his current deal and the team has no interest in giving him a new deal this year.
In a nutshell, I don’t see this getting resolved anytime soon. Peters is underpaid and he and everyone knows it, while the Bills feel no rush to do a new deal since he has still has three years left on his deal. In a semi-related note, Aaron Schobel still had three years left on his contract when the Bills extended him last Summer.
