How Cheap Is Ralph?; NFL Head Coach Salaries

Here's a list of the head coaches in the NFL and their approximate salaries this season:

Some interesting things to note: Jack Del Rio, Mike Tomlin, are paid only $1 million more than Jauron and they both have winning coaching records to date. Wade Phillips is paid double what Jauron makes.

Keep in mind...while $1 million dollars more for a coaches salary might seem like nothing, it means a big jump when the highest paid is only $8 million.

Seems as if it only takes about $3 million to wrangle in a good head coach. But at the same time, I see on this list a HELL of a lot of overpaid unproven coaches. So I think what Jauron makes is relative to his past experience, but it's time to go out and get someone who is proven if Jauron doesn't work out this season.

Jack Del Rio, Mike Tomlin, are paid only $1 million more than Jauron and they both have winning coaching records to date.

I can believe the number for Tomlin, because he was a unproven rookie HC a year ago and is working off his first contract.

Del Rio is making more though though. Del Rio just signed a extension (http://www.jacksonville.com/tu-online/stories/040408/spf_264875408.shtml/) last April that will pay him $5M annually from 2009-2012. His salary for the current season remains $3.5M, and the $2.5M figure comes from what he made in 2007.

this is exactly the point some of us have been making for years about RW being cheap. The Cap is determining the player salaries and there is sharing to compensate for that...so the true indicator of financial committment to being successful in the NFL is the coaching and this is why we have had coaches with zero experience for the past decade. I made a thread based on discussions of how Ralph is cheap and "look at how cheap he is on hiring coaches!" so I went and dug up the facts and figures and posted them. if anyones being negative here it's you jumping down my throat for creating a discussion.

I read the situation. The situation was, Ralph wanted someone else. Marv wanted Dick. The coach Ralph supposedly wanted would arguably have been more expensive than Dick.

I'm done trying to convince someone who is content in his own naivety and opinionated ignorance. Ralph is cheap when it comes to spending his own money (coaches) but he HAS to spend money on players because it's a ****ing rule that you have to spend so much money to the cap. So don't give me this crap about him overpaying players and that that means he's not cheap. He's stupid for overpaying players because it lead to the Peters thing, so not only is he cheap when it comes to spending his own money, but he's a moron and so are the people who overpaid Kelsay (which then in turn we had to overpay Schobel, which in turn pissed off Peters and set a precedent). Now the Stroud thing was a bargain, so while he has his eff ups, he makes up for them in other areas, so I'm not concerned with overpaying for certain players because its something small market teams have to do, but also there's a responsiblity that comes with that, you have to be really smart about who you overpay so you don't screw yourself down the line, and the main catalyst for this Peters mess was the insane amount of money given to Kelsay because it set off a chain reaction that culiminated to our Pro Bowl LT not being here.
