    Emerging AFC Star: Donte Whitner

Look both ways. Grow up fast. Those concepts have helped Bills DB Donte Whitner to become an emerging NFL star mature beyond his years.

They also mention Jay Cutler, Santonion Holmes, and Cortland Finnegan as 3 other emerging AFC stars.

Didn't Santonio already emerge last year?

I would say no. He proved that at times he can be very good, but he also has a very good #1 WR and QB on that squad.

Yeah, I'd say he's emerging, but he's certainly not a star yet. I think the point of the article was to pick a guy from each division that they think is going to take that next step and put themselves into that upper echelon of players.

I'm trying to figure out what they base this on.

There's no denying that he's getting better, but he still has a long way to go before he's a "star."

Re: Emerging AFC Star: Donte Whitner

Whitner knows his guarantee will make him a target for criticism every weekend this fall.

"Scrubs don't make predictions like that," Whitner said. "You have to be an impact player in the league to even open up your mouth and say something like that."
What an idiot. Shooting your mouth off doesn't make you an impact player. Making an impact on the field makes you an impact player.

And BTW, to all the people who say Whitner's comments won't be on other teams' bulletin boards, re-read the above post. WHITNER HIMSELF thinks it will make him a target. Other teams do pay attention to this ****.

Hey man, aside from a championship one thing I've been dying for over the past ten years is to get a guy with a freaking cocky attitude and a personality; apparently we got both with Whitner. If he can get even a few guys on the team to believe what he's saying it was well worth it.

Cocky attitudes can be a necessary evil in sports, but there's nothing worse than a guy who talks **** without backing it up on the field. Whitner shouldn't be opening his mouth like this publicly until he proves himself.
