Round 5 Pick 16 (151) Guard Ben Sobeieski

    Ben Sobieski
    OG | (6-5, 307, 5.03) | IOWA
    By Pro Football Weekly

Notes: High school All-American and the best offensive lineman in the state of Minnesota. Also lettered in track and hockey. Played in every game and started once in 1997. Started every game and looked like a future college star and pro prospect in '98. Ran under 4.9 in the 40 at that time. Missed the entire '99 and 2000 seasons with shoulder problems. Finally came back to see extensive action in the final three games of '01 season. Preseason groin injury set him back last fall, and his shoulders were still giving him problems. Did not make a start last season but saw action in all 13 games, primarily at right guard.

Positives: Tapes in 1998 made him look like the real deal with size, quick feet, speed and athletic ability. His up side is through the roof. May have answered questions about his health with an excellent workout at the Combine.

Negatives: Durability is extremely questionable. Hasn't played much since starting in '98. Toughness is also questionable, as he doesn't show much in the way of pain tolerance. Is sensitive to criticism and has had continuous shoulder problems.

Summary: Has shown he can be a dominant player, but history of injuries hurts his chances of getting drafted.

Its not like we have anyone else after Brown and Sullivan that's a guaranteed keeper. I say he sticks.

Torrin Tucker seems like a better pick here but if somehow this guy can stay healthy it could be a great pick. (But if Ken Griffey Jr. could stay healthy the Reds wuold be a better team too.)
