Crowell I-R decision all about timing

In the wake of the big decision to put Angelo Crowell on injured reserve Thursday, head coach Dick Jauron explained why that choice was made on Friday. With Crowell electing to have surgery three days prior to the opener Jauron admitted the timing was a factor.

“The timing had some impact because it was the only thing we had to deal with,” said Jauron. “Seventy-two hours before a game is certainly different than three weeks prior to your opener in training camp. So the timing is part of every situation and it was part of this one.”

Jauron and his staff felt they were at a disadvantage with just five linebackers available for Sunday’s game and with the inability to accurately gauge how much time would be needed before Crowell was healthy again it was a decision they had to make.

I understand timing was a factor.

      Cut Copeland Bryan instead.

they didnt need to have to "gauge" how long it would take him to recover. They could've waited til after surgery and talk to doctors before making such a drastic move.

WTF could it have hurt to wait? What is George Freegin Costanza going to do for this team? On 48 hours practice nonethless.

Whatever.. Believe the hype if you want.. Its 100% personal.

            or Matt Murphy. Thank you.

Now do you believe me that was a hasty move that was purely personal by the front office?

Crowell isn't a bum. He's one of the better players on the team. He was worth waiting a week to find out how long it would take to get him back on the field.

He didnt even HAVE surgery yet!!!!!!!!!!!

Love this team, BUT **** this front office.. for real.

My best guess from what Jauron said -

              1) The recovery is going to take more than the mere 2-4 weeks. Jauron alluded to possibility 8 games or more.

              2) I'm really thinking that the coaching stuff are not that high on Crowell ANY MORE that they are not willing to waste a roster spot unlike Denny last year.

I never said it wasn't personal Pat. I have been *****ing about it since it happened too.

I think you overrate Crowell (another discussion), but he is a very solid player.

I also understand why the Bills are pissed that he made this decision at this time. He should have had the surgery much earlier.

But this is a panic move and over-reaction.

Jauron is the coach so they know what they need at different positions. Judging by what he was able to pull the defense together after so many injuries, I gave him the benefit of doubt for the decision.

So let me get this straight.

Derek Fine is injured, he could be out for as long as Crowell would’ve been, and we only have TWO other tight ends on the roster and only ONE of them is 100%..

Yet we DON’T put Fine on the IR? And we’ll go into week one with only 2 TE’s..??

But we’ll IR Angelo Crowell before he even has his surgery???!?!?!?!??!? And despite numerous reports the procedure would only make him miss 2-4 weeks??

Cut Matt Murphy or IR him, you already have Bell on the roster and another OT on the practice squad.

Congrats Russ Brandon.. If you’re behind this you just made the list before your first real game in charge as making one of the 10 dumbest moves for the Bills this decade.

He "pulled them together" to the second worst ranked defense in the league last year.

                          That's pulling it together?

I trust Jauron to give a brilliant commencement speech at my son's college graduation someday. He's proven nothing to me for me to trust him to smartly run and manage a NFL football team.

Would Crowell be 100% ready to go within a couple of months?? I highly doubt it. Then they find that he needs a full year after doing a more serious surgery & DJ is a genius. Make a determination after the surgery to see if Crowell was going to be useful this season, not before.

                            Save Peters.

When this season ends, this regime may have the potential to be just as bad as Donadopes was.
