I noticed that when I was uploading. For some reason, I had problems holding the camera...it doesn't help that I have a shaking problem with my hands that I inherited from my mom and grandpa.... :ill:

After looking at these....I definitely gotta get myself a tripod.... That should definitely help. BTW, other than you commenting about how slanted they are...what do you think? I did take these with my Kodak that you don't like. :::

They are good photos. You need to spend some time in the digital "dark room" with them to tweak the contrast and brightness. Later this weekend I'll adjust one or two of yours to show you what I mean and the difference.

I didn't say I didn't like your Kodak, I said you should get a Canon. Your Kodak has great features which you need to learn how to use so you can capture stunning images.

And if yes get a tripod.

I can't wait to see what you mean about the digital dark room. I have tried playing with the colors and stuff before and usually make it either too bright or too washed out. Any help of yours is greatly appreciated. But you are right...Canon is still better and definitely on my list of things to buy. Even if I just get a used one from someone i know.

I'm starting to play around with my Kodak more and more and really like the many features. At the Redskins game, hammerbillsfan showed me about how to set the shutter at different speeds and it definitely helped me out with my night time photos.

The most important "setting" on your camera is AV. It stands for aperature value. You set the aperature (lens opening) and the camera sets your shutter speed.

what's the best setting for the aperture value? I have a aperture priority settings menu.

I was thinking the exact same thing

what's the best setting for the aperture value? I have a aperture priority settings menu.Depends on how much light you need. If you are shooting in low light and want as much in the lens as you can squeeze, you'll want to try a lower setting such as f2.8-4.0. Your shutter speed should be no lower than 1/25. So in low light situations such as anything indoors, have your aperature as low as you can go to achieve the 1/25 or 1/30. If you are shooting in bright light you need a higher aperature such as f11 or higher. The shutter speed should be around 1/100 or so.

If your camera has TV mode, you can use this until you get used to the AV mode. TV mode allows you to set your shutter speed and it will then pick the apropriate aperature value. This will be the opposite settings as mentioned above. Set your shutter speed to 1/30 or 1/25 (the lowest you can go without a flash) and see what the aperture sets to.

This is all depending upon if you have onboard metering that shows you the settings.

I no longer use the AV or TV mode and just use Manual settings. The biggest trick to photography is knowing how much light you actually need to get the shot.

Hope this helps.

Also using your ISO settings is important. Indoors have it around 400. You can use 800 but the picture gets too much digital noise.

Outdoors you will want to have it around 100 or 200.

And pick up the book by Tom Ang called "How to Photograph Absolutely Everything." It's the single most important book you can read to get to know what to do in certain situations.
