Rumor has it that it's a torn ACL.

sounds more like wishful thinking. I'm not a dr but he walked off under his own power- would he be able to do that with a torn ACL?

This would definitely change things in the AFCE, but injuries NEVER seem to hurt the Pats. Brady would have been on the bench if it wasn't for an injury to Bledsoe.

VeggieMan14

This could actually be worse then i thought origanally i looked at the footage and it looks a lot like an injury that is called the "unhappy Triad" which is a torn ACL, MCL, and Meniscus. This is a season ending possibly career ending but of course i could be wrong and it could be a bone bruise because i dont have x-rays but the point is that it looks bad

That is what is being reported all over here. Torn ACL, done for the year. Tough break for the Pats, but injuries are part of the deal. They don't cancel the games.

With the Pats going from the best QB in the division (and one of the 2 best in the NFL) to the worst QB in the division it is now wide open. I don't think Miami is ready to challenge because they have made too many changes this year, but I could see Buf, NYJ or NE winning the East. It is that close.

I actually am encouraged by the Pats defense. Their front-7 is going to be great, and their secondary seems like it will be OK. They will take some time to gel, but I can see them having a shot to be the best defense in the division.

They are going to need to because they will have to slug out games to win. They still have great offensive talent, but Brady made the engine run. With Cassel, they are going to have to run the ball more and won't have the downfield threat they had. It should be interesting to watch play out.

As much as I feel bad for Brady, it is kind of exciting to be in a dog fight. It will make the games that much more interesting to watch. It will be different anyway.

And... it a weird sort of way I'm excited for you guys. People around here have been beaten down so bad in recent years, now they have genuine optimism. The Bills are a young, improving team, and they have as good a shot at the playoffs as they have had this decade.

One word of caution... it is a long season, and the first half of it isn't where it is won. No matter how good today's win was, the playoffs are made in November and December. However, congrats on your big win today, and high hopes for the season.

my favorite part was where moss said he thought it was a dirty hit in a press confrence afterwards.. he said he didnt see it, because he was down field (fumbling the ball without contact), but the replay looked dirty.. i found it so ironic.. and i am sure jp losman found it to be the same.

Tom Brady is a great qb. It's sad that he's hurt. Thanks to NE39 for his comments. You're a great contributer to our site. I'd rather have the Bills beat NE with Brady, because you actually want to beat the best to be considered the best. Unfortunately, that may not be the case this year. I honestly think the Bills should be able to compete for the AFC East title now that it looks like Brady is out. Trent still needs to be consistent and grow into the role where a QB takes you to the top. If he does, we're there.

I think that is they key for Buffalo. I like Edwards and based on what I've seen he can be a good QB. The question is, how high is the ceiling?

I think at worst, Edwards will develop into an efficient game-manager who can win games with a good team. At best I think he can be a Drew Brees-type, a guy who can complete a high percentage of his passes and take his team up a level. Time will tell where he falls in that spectrum.

Tom Brady (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/5228/;_ylt=AoChDF3rgZkKMSyhgEHy774dsLYF) limped off the field in pain, and the New England Patriots (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/teams/nwe/;_ylt=AgIfHaGk_VzYusq4wn2rNr8dsLYF) can only hope their Super Bowl hopes didn’t go with him.
The NFL’s reigning MVP left Sunday’s 17-10 victory over Kansas City midway through the first quarter with an injured left knee after being hit on a throw. There was no immediate word on the extent of Brady’s injury—“I am not sure what we are dealing with,” coach Bill Belichick said—or how long he would be out.
“It kind of looked bad,” wide receiver Randy Moss (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/4262/;_ylt=AglgUPAb2DqXxhz0O4m19YodsLYF) said.
Various reports Sunday night said Belichick told the players that the injury was serious. The Patriots were already looking for a possible replacement for Brady. A person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press that former Tampa Bay quarterback Chris Simms (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/6433/;_ylt=ArlCiI_Nx2r4.oG3KAwqYFodsLYF) was coming in Monday for a physical.

Brady went to the locker room and wasn’t seen again as backup Matt Cassel (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/7406/;_ylt=AgkiQKGF2ySR5D5v13Nlks4dsLYF) led the Patriots to the victory. Cassel, who had thrown just 39 passes in his first three seasons, could see a lot more action if Brady is sidelined next week — or beyond.
“They’re looking at him, doing some tests on him, so I don’t have any information there,” Belichick said, cracking a smile as he added, “doubt anybody’s interested.”

Ickybaluky

Culpepper doesn't really seem like the Pats kind of QB. They like guys that can work within a structure and read the entire field, and those aren't Culpepper's strengths.

On the other hand, I wouldn't have thought Moss was the Pats kind of WR, either. Culpepper does have the arm to stretch the field vertically, which is something the Pats lose going from Brady to Cassel.

Right now, they reportedly are working out Chris Simms and Tim Rattay today. I always like Rattay, and I'm a little suprised he isn't in the NFL right now. He is a WCO/system kind of QB. The one thing I don't like about him is his size. The guy is small for an NFL QB, kind of like Jim Sorgi.

Simms showed flashes of ability prior to his spleen injury. He is the kind of pocket guy who fits what the Pats like to do. The one thing I never liked about him is he seems to tighten up in the clutch. Perhaps that is leftover feelings from his college days. He is still a young guy and has some ability, and after his injury nobody can question his toughness.

As much as I feel bad for Brady, it is kind of exciting to be in a dog fight. It will make the games that much more interesting to watch. It will be different anyway.

So you guys now have a mediocre at best QB with a good but aging defense and one WR and a RB.

Now who does that remind you of?

I don't know, but I'm guessing that between Mangini leaving Foxboro with a team-issued laptop (that surely contained the team playbook, among other things), to blowing the whistle that started spygate - and surely made life for every member of the Pats organization very unpleasant last year - I'm thinking that Mangini has zero friends at any level in Foxboro. As much as we dislike New England, the hatred between the Jets and the Patriots is at least ten times as high.

"After extensive tests this morning, it was revealed that New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady's left knee, which was injured in the first quarter of yesterday's game, will require surgery. He will be placed on injured reserve and will miss the remainder of the 2008 season."
