Yup, I just tuned into the press conference so I missed the beginning. He also said he is not working out any QBs.

http://blogs.nfl.com/2008/09/08/brady-out-for-season-placed-on-injured-reserve/

All of the speculation regarding the severity of Tom Brady’s left knee injury ended on Monday, when the New England Patriots placed him on the injured reserve. The move effectively ends Brady’s 2008 season, confirming what was widely reported on Sunday.

The Patriots released a statement saying Brady’s injury would require surgery, but didn’t confirm the specifics of the type of injury he suffered.

“That’s really about all we have at this point,” Patriots coach Bill Belichick said in a Monday news conference. “Of course we feel badly for tom about the injury, you hate to see anyone go down. Nobody works harder than Tom. .. It’s a tough setback for him.”

Belichick went on to dispute reports that the Patriots had worked out several quarterbacks, saying the team had only fielded calls.

torn ACL. wonder if it will affect QBs like it does RBs. Sometimes that is a two year injury.

I wouldn't consider something WGR - or even espn - reports as "official", but I would say that something off a team's website could be considered official.

STATEMENT FROM THE NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS ON TOM BRADY

"After extensive tests this morning, it was revealed that New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady's left knee, which was injured in the first quarter of yesterday's game, will require surgery. He will be placed on injured reserve and will miss the remainder of the 2008 season."

it's a good thing it wasn't his right shoulder that was injured. He needs that for his manpurse.

Didn't Marino tear his ACL?

Next season he'll be as good as new.

torn ACL. wonder if it will affect QBs like it does RBs. Sometimes that is a two year injury.

The only ways that it would really have a negative impact on a QB would be if: 1.) it was hit "plant" leg, and 2.) if he was a running QB who relied on his speed and agility.

Neither really applies to Brady.

He was hit on the leg that he lands on in his follow-through. That might "take a little bit off his fastball", but probably not much, since he will strengthen the muscles around the knee to support it and can compensate with his arm.

And, Brady was never very fast or much of a running QB. He used his vision and uncanny ability to feel the rush and where the openings in the pocket are to escape the pressure moreso than his speed (it always would drive me crazy to see him step through the rush and slowly run downfield with no defenders around him for a first down--aaarrrrggghhh!).

Even if this slows him down a bit, unfortunately, I can still see him being effective throwing the ball, like Marino was, when he comes back.

This injury will definitely affect his mobility! He wont be the same QB.

It was a nice ride on the winners bandwagon for 7 years.

Brady could end up like Daunte Culpepper out of the league because of a bad knee injury.

Ebenezer

I wonder if it will take him "up to two years" to fully heal.

6-9 months recovery.

BTW, he actually isn't officially on IR yet. However, it should happen today when the activate Kevin Faulk.

No, Daunte's out of the league because he was too dumb to learn how to adapt his game, not because of the injury. Brady, no matter what we think of him, has the smarts to know how to work with the physical tools he has. No doubt he'll come back as good as he was, but for this year at least he's out of our hair.

I'll be interested to see how much of an affect it really has on the Patriots. I always wondered how much of the success was down to Brady, and how much was down to the system, I guess now we get to find out.
