His mobility just lost a few steps.

that's usually how it goes...the ACL is weak but the MCL generally tears first...this causes the joint to be more unstable...the ACL then snaps under the pressure.

Just to name a couple of QB's that had a bad knee injury and their careers went south.

Dan Marino

Daunte Culpepper

Marino had poor mobility and was older when his happened. Culpepper? meh.

True the knee never is the same...I was just describing how thing injuries generally happen - wasn't making an judgment on other QBs.

Ironically, Tuesday in anatomy lab we reviewed the knee joint!

Not a judgement. Just examining how this will affect Brady's mobility.

Your menitoning Anatomy reminds me of my Highschool Anatomy & Physiology class Mr. Saglambeny. The best HS teacher I ever had.

10 + pages of a note a day. :phew:

Dan Marino

Daunte Culpepper

Dan Marino never tore up his knee. He ruptured his achilles tendon.

Daunte Culpepper tore his ACL, MCL, PCL and had cartilage damage. It was a much more severe injury.

Brady tore his MCL and ACL, but did not tear his PCL or suffer cartilage damage. That is a common injury when hit from the side of the knee, similar to what Carson Palmer, Donovan McNabb, Phillip Rivers, Luke McCown and Rex Grossman suffered. In each case, the player returned the following season.

With it happening so early, the prognosis for a full recovery by next season is excellent. The MCL does not require surgery, but needs 4-6 weeks to heal naturally. The ACL must be replaced, and is a 6- to 8-month recovery. Brady will have his ACL surgery in about a month, after his MCL has a chance to heal, and will be back fully participating by minicamp.

I'm always surprised, given how common this injury is becoming for QBs, that more QBs don't wear knee braces on their front (non-plant) leg. Peyton Manning has worn a brace on his front (left) leg for years, after a scare when his leg got rolled up on by a rusher.

BTW, besides Marino's injury being his achilles and not his knee, his career also did not go south.

When Marino returned from his injury the following season he threw for over 4,000 yards and 30 TDs. He played 6 more seasons.
