Re: Stroud ready to show up Jags....link
One game into the season, and it's not too early to say that the Jacksonville Jaguars may have made a mistake with defensive tackle Marcus Stroud.
They let him go to Buffalo, trading him for two draft picks after coach Jack Del Rio suggested that Stroud, who bowed out with a high-ankle sprain last season, might never again be 100 percent.
Well, this just in: He is 100 percent, and don't take it from me, Jacksonville. You can see for yourself Sunday when the Jags host Buffalo in what Stroud described as "just another game."
Yeah, sure. And "In-N-Out" is just another burger joint.
This could be the guy's own private Super Bowl, with Stroud given his chance to demonstrate to the Jags what he's already showing western New York -- namely, that he's back to where he should be and, yes, 100 percent.
Of course, he would never admit to that. He went out of his way Wednesday to say that he holds no grudges against Del Rio, is not out to make a statement Sunday and will not behave differently against the Jags than he would another opponent.
Then the truth serum kicked in.
"I just don't want it to seem like I'm stressing for one game," he said. Fair enough, but can you blame him if he were? I mean, this is someone who, at one time, was regarded as one of the top defensive tackles in the game. Then he got hurt, his play tailed off, he underwent ankle surgery, he was suspended for violating the league's steroids policy and he finished last season in the discard pile.
He was supposed to have peaked, but Buffalo didn't believe it. Smart thinking. Stroud was the defensive star of the Bills' training camp. He was the defensive star of their season-opening rout of Seattle. And he sure looks like a defensive star waiting to happen against Jacksonville. One set of rules for all in the beloved community
