So I bought an '08 Chevy Malibu on Sunday. The old guy that had bought it put 3000 miles on it then realized he had a hell of a time getting in and out of it, so he traded it back in. Thanks for taking care of some of that instant depreciation for me old dude!
I got a pretty good deal on it and the reason it was so appealing to me is it had pretty much every feature I was interested in already. 17" chrome wheels, power everything, XM radio, OnStar, etc... Plus he had the seats redone in leather. I was mostly indifferent on leather, but it's not a bad thing at all of course. Plus since he got it done at a custom shop, they used better material and did a better job than some factory is likely to do.
I also got quite a bit more for my trade in than expected, so I was pleased all the way around.

Is it the 3.5L V6 under the hood? I know they were putting that in the Malibus for a while.

No, it's the 4 cylinder. Part of the reason for getting a new car was better fuel economy. It picks up pretty well though, considering.

Nice ride, congrats BMN. Whats the MPG your getting?Couldn't tell you yet, I drove it home from the dealership on Saturday and then was gone all weekend. Drove it to and from work today and that's it. I'll know better in a week or two. It's rated at 24-30, so I hope to see close to the 30 mark since most of my drive is highway.

they get enough torque out of them that there's very little difference between a good 4 and a small V6.

No, it's the 4 cylinder. Part of the reason for getting a new car was better fuel economy. It picks up pretty well though, considering. Not reading through all the posts before discussing this but you may regret getting the 4. We have the 6 and are glad we have the extra power. The Mailbu is small enough to get great mileage in so the difference isn't much.
Ours is the '98 (ther first year they put the 6 in her) and it still runs great.
Is yours the one with the hatchback opening? I didn't like that feature in the newer models.

Is yours the one with the hatchback opening? I didn't like that feature in the newer models.Well, in particular to get this car at this price with the features I wanted, I had no choice... Also, it's a rarity down here in the south that there is a need for any extra power, so I'm not too worried about it really.
And no, no hatchback, I despise hatchbacks.
