Sources close to SBReport have learned that defensive coordinator Rob Ryan will be promoted to head coach when the Oakland Raiders part ways with Lane Kiffin.


The move should be announced by Wednesday.

As first reported on SBReport earlier today, the Oakland Raiders will promote defensive coordinator Rob Ryan to head coach after severing ties with Lane Kiffin.



Ryan, 45, becomes the 17^th head coach in Silver & Black history, and the sixth head coach since the decade began. The fiery coordinator interviewed for the job in 2007, after the firing of Art Shell, but Oakland went with the young assistant from USC, telling Ryan in the process that he would make a good coach in the league in the near future.


After the 2-14 season in 2006, Ryan’s stock was on the rise, as his pass defense and enthusiastic unit was the lone bright spot. But in subsequent seasons, his defense took a step back with a roster full of high draft picks.

I hear what you're saying but I'm not sure if they have the talent to make a difference even if they "come together".

Also, that would also imply that Lane Kiffin has been the reason that the Raiders suck, which is not true at all. If anything, he's the one who's making semi-sweet lemonade out of the lemon of a team that Al Davis gave him.

I can't imagine they're able to focus on the Bills this week. How in the hell is Kiffin gonna gameplan when he could get fired at any moment?

Raider fans hateeeee Rob Ryan. They were ripping him on the message board after Bronco game. Kiffin actually wanted to fire Ryan last year. But Al Davis wouldn't allow it.
