Trades that were attempted, made and rejected were the story of the 2003 draft.

The most profitable trade might have been Philadelphia's move up 15 spots in the first round for defensive end Jerome McDougle. Andy Reid filled a hole and got excellent value for the pick. Teams that play in the NFC championship game aren't supposed to be able to draft players of McDougle's quality, but the Eagles did.

You have to admire the flexibility and foresight of Patriots coach Bill Belichick and player personnel director Scott Pioli, who have become masters of working the draft. They traded up four times over the weekend and traded down twice while walking away with two extra high picks for next year (a first and a second).
