If this is true...I hope it's because he and the Bills injury settled.

Barnes has been on the Jim Rome show and an outspoken member of this 4-0 team.

Wow. Barnes was a good guy too. Who knows what happened there. Makes sense though we looked at Mcintyre during the offseason.

wtf? At the least, Barnes was a standout special teams player, while McIntyre doesn't even know our playbook...

Maybe McIntyre is a better blocker in the run game? The Bills were probally unhappy with the run blocking thus far.

McIntyre is 18 pounds heavier than Barnes, and 2 inches shorter.

this better be injury-related.

I thought Barnes was having a decent year. And he's a friggin fullback. Unless it's Mike Alstott,"decent" is all you can ask for.

At least they brought somebody in, because Whittle was awful as a FB this week.

Why would we sign Bentley? He's clearly not healthy enough or is done for or he would be on a team right now. Now Bentley four years ago would be the ****, but now? I'll pass.

I almost wonder sometimes if we'd be better off with Preston or Whittle playing Center. Both have prior experience and can't be much worse.

I honestly have not been able to find this anywhere else on the internet and I would assume that the Bills would have sent a vText. Not saying you're wrong, just odd that it's no where else to be found. And, why the hell would the Bills drop a guy who was blocking better than any of our linemen?

Biggest F.B. I can remember...

He looked pretty funny running in a uniform...

It's gotta have to do with the injury. Obviously we can't have Whittle back there for an extended period of time, and with Turk's new offense, a fullback is used quite frequently. It must not be an IR type injury, but they let him have a chance to sign on with someone once he heals.

The Bills have released fullback Darian Barnes, and have signed veteran fullback Corey McIntyre, according to ESPN.com.

Barnes, the Bills starting fullback, was inactive for the St. Louis game with an injured foot.

McIntyre is a 7-year veteran out of West Virginia who is primarily a blocker. He has played for three NFL teams, most recently the Atlanta Falcons, who released him after training camp.

This is an excellent example of why players are so anal when it comes to their contracts and wanting big money now. Barnes was playing great for us, he was really starting to look like someone who could make big contributions in the run blocking game, but then he gets hurt, and look what happens to him. He's jobless; think about this next time you're berating a player for wanting his money now.

There's no middle ground in it and it's something that fluctuates year after year. For years the owners screwed the players much like we just screwed Barnes, now the players are turning it around and screwing the owners.

I'll always side with the players, I know too many who have been screwed by the system much like Barnes just was and it's not right. Especially when they are guys who really cared about the team they are on and gave it their all.

BuffaloBills.com still hasn't reported it yet, and neither has NFL.com.

I sort of look at both of those as being the top dogs in what is really happening.

So... let's keep our tails steady before we fully know, eh?

Oaf
09-30-2008, 01:46 AM
We had been pushing Barnes' value since the day we signed him, all the while I said we were starting a JETS and FINS REJECT. So in comes the draft and we draft a 4th RB and a 8th CB over a starting caliber FB that EASILY could have been had. We lose Viti to the army, and are so appalled with Barnes inefficiency that we drop him back to the dumpster midseason and pick up another reject on the way back up.

It's a good thing we are 4-0.

WTF! This makes no sense. Barnes was very popular among the players and even had a nickname. He was doing a good job on offense. plus he made some good plays on Special Teams. I don't understand this at all.

I thought Barnes looked very good against the Raiders, and he was solid the first two games. Unless the injury is worse than was originally thought I don't see any reason for this. Then again, until I see an announcement from someone other than ESPN (and WGRZ quoting ESPN doesn't count) I'll hold fire.

Maybe the Bills management think McIntyre is the better player.

With Barnes' injury and the bye week coming after next game, now is the time to make the switch if they are going to make one.

Barnes is physical. Too bad he can't hit a moving target which leads to Marshawn fighting through that target. Go back and watch the films and see how many times he missed people.

Now I do think he's a better receiver than the guy we signed. So what does that tell you? The Bills are clearly looking at run game improvement.

To be fair though, Barnes will get his entire salary this season so while he is jobless he still gets paid.

<!-- End /PubSys/Story/MediaBox/MediaBox.comp --><!--endclickprintexclude-->The Buffalo Bills have released fullback Darian Barnes and replaced him with Corey McIntyre, league sources confirmed to The Buffalo News on Monday night.
The Bills have not made an official announcement and attempts to get a comment from the team Monday night were unsuccessful.
Barnes, who was signed during the offseason, suffered a sprained foot during the Bills’ win over Oakland two weeks ago. He was limited in practice the past week and put on the inactive list for Sunday’s game at St. Louis.
Barnes didn’t have a rushing attempt, but caught two passes for 34 yards and provided solid blocking for running backs Marshawn Lynch and Fred Jackson. The Bills were the fifth team Barnes played for in his seven-year career.
Like Barnes, McIntyre is a journeyman who played for three teams during his four years in the league. The 6-foot, 258-pounder was the Atlanta Falcons’ special teams captain last season. The Falcons cut him at the end of training camp.

Kind of random, but hey- thanks for the insight!

I don't like seeing this guy cut, but kudos to the FO for not being afraid to make a change when they see the need to do so. We can't afford not to have a true FB playing (obviously Whittle is not the answer) and have a decent run game, so this leads me to believe that Barnes had a more serious injury than we originally thought.

If it's true, it must be that the foot injury is more serious than first thought.

... and yet if you look at this thread, you'd swear the Bills just cut a healthy Pro Bowl FB.

Damn you, Mr. Wilson!!

FB McIntyre signed; Barnes released

Two weeks after Darian Barnes made his first two receptions of the season for the Bills, the club chose to make a change at the fullback position releasing Barnes in favor of free agent Corey McIntyre.

A true fullback like Barnes, McIntyre (6'0" 244) visited the Bills as a restricted free agent this past offseason on March 4 despite the fact that Barnes was already on the roster.

Obviously his most recent trip to Buffalo ended up far more fruitful for him.

“I’m here and I’m just going to go out there and do what I do and help this team continue it’s climb up the mountain,” McIntyre told Buffalobills.com.

McIntyre had re-signed with Atlanta on April 18 as he signed his restricted free agent tender with the club. But McIntyre was subsequently released by the Falcons on Sept. 2 as part of their final cuts.

You're a day late. The thread I saw earlier today talked about it being a rumor. Jim Rome sounded like this was breaking news and the official release from bb.com was dated an hour ago.

My bad.
