    I salute you, Marv Levy

Marv Levy was general manager of the Bills for 2 short seasons, and his decisions are the reason we are winning games.

First look at the 2006 draft, Levy's first season:

    18(8)Donte WhitnerSOhio State
    126(26)John McCargoDTNC State
    36(70)Ashton YoubotyCBOhio State
    48(105)Ko SimpsonSSouth Carolina
    51(134)Kyle WilliamsDTLouisiana State
    510(143)Brad ButlerTVirginia
    69(178)Keith EllisonOLBOregon State
    78(216)Terrence PenningtonTNew Mexico
    740(248)Aaron MerzOGCalifornia

Whitner has developed into a defensive captain, Youboty is playing great out of the slot corner position, Ko Simpson, Kyle Williams, Brad Butler, and Keith Ellison are all starters in their 3rd season in the league.

    Now the 2007 draft:
    112 (12)Marshawn LynchRBCalifornia
    22 (34)Paul PoslusznyOLBPenn State
    328 (92)Trent EdwardsQBStanford
    412 (111)Dwayne WrightRBFresno State
    610 (184)John WendlingSWyoming
    712 (222)Derek SchoumanTEBoise State
    729 (239)C.J. Ah YouDEOklahoma

In Edwards, Poz, and Lynch you have 3 cornerstones of our team right now. Trent is looking like an unbelievable steal at the end of the 3rd round. Levy also hit with two late round picks as Schouman looks to be our best pass recieving tight end, and Wendling has developed into an outstanding special teams player.

All in all the only big mistake Levy looks to have made is trading back up to the first round in '06 to draft John McCargo. Where McCargo is a soid rotational player, he has not lived up to the first round billing. That being said besides Dwayne Wright every player drafted in the first 6 rounds of Levy's 2 drafts are making contributions this year.

Marv was also the guy who went out and finally spent money on the offensive line, bringing in Langston Walker and Derrick Dockery. He also got us a contributor at tight end in Robert Royal.

To win in the NFL you have to draft well, and thats exactly what Marv did. That is the reason this team is 4-0, and for the first time in awhile, the Bills sit atop the AFC east.

    Thank you Marv Levy

of course at the time of all these drafts we hated Levy and questioned every single pick

That's because most people on here knows more about football than Marv Levy.

9 starters out of two drafts is not bad, although Ellison is only a starter because of injury and Youboty is the starting nickel CB. Overall though, pretty good. Now if McCargo AND Youboty would've been busts, that '06 draft doesn't look as good. But Youboty is playing like a champ...finally.

Let's keep things in perspective. Marv did not draft each of those guys. What he did do was reintroduce a "Draft by Committee" standard that was used during the Bill Polian era. The front office as a whole made those drafts possible.

Keeping in perspective... while he may not have solely draft these guys he retaught the front office how to pick high football character players.

Spikes, You're not even factoring in the UDFA decisions. not sure if Greer was one of them...but for sure Marv is behind Digi and Freddie Jackson. So theres 2 more.

I was thinking the same about the UDRFA . Greer, I would give Marv the credit for developing him into a good solid cd.

Resigning guys like Reed ,Kelsay ,etc. as well.

I was going to start a similar thread, I agree whole heartedly. Marv was ridiculed by many of the football experts, including the "experts" here. Time for those people to eat a little crow. How about it Moran?

Jabari Greer was a Tom Donahoe pick.

The drafts have certainly been good the past 2 years. McCargo was the lone sore spot, but the Kyle Williams pick does overshadow that a bit.

The Trent Edwards pick was the steal of that entire draft, although it may take 2-3 more years before we can fully determine that.

He did his thing for us in the 90's and in those 2 years in the office. I think we should have kept Pennington. He played well in the games he started in due to injuries and he was massive like Walker. GO BILLS
