Bills familiar with slow starts, big finishes

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. – The process of becoming great often requires some early suffering. That’s something the Buffalo Bills’ trio of rising offensive stars knows about on and off the field.
For quarterback Trent Edwards, running back Marshawn Lynch and wide receiver Lee Evans – who have played a huge role in the team’s 4-0 start – the situation hasn’t always been pretty. Each has faced some adversity that shaped who they are in ways reminiscent of those that made the holy trinity of Jim Kelly, Thurman Thomas and Andre Reed great.
“I hate to make comparisons with the guys I coached, but I see some similarities there, especially when it comes to performance,” said Marv Levy, who coached the Bills teams that went to four straight Super Bowls from 1990-93 and drafted Lynch and Edwards in ‘07.

I really hate to argue with Marv, but our current three are very different from our old three. Kelly was more of a tough guy with a strong arm and will to win, Trent is a smart adaptable QB. Thurman was a great all arounder, at this point Marshawn is a tough grind it out runner. Lee is a speedy deep threat, Reed was a great guy to get you what you need and little more. Really I would compare Freddy to Thurman and Josh to Andre. Lee is more like Lofton.

Hey man, whatever works. We really need to have a PRESENT day team/players to be proud and excited about. We can't keep relying on the early 90s to make us feel good about this team, and I really hope we get that this year. I want to be telling the story about "Oh man, Kelly, Thomas, Reed were great but oh man do you remember Edwards, Lynch, and Evans? They were the new era power trio"

agreed and I think they will become that group. Just can't compare them, they play very differently. In fact I would think Marshawn might be a better fit for that tough 90s team and Thurman would be better suited for our current West coast system.

I thought about the Evans->Lofton comparison earlier today too, w/JReed being more AReed-like. Like Raph said, it doesn't really matter if the man to man comparisons hold up as long as their impact measure up (or surpasses).

Instead of reveling in Evans’ strong play, Moulds got angry that he wasn’t getting the ball, according to the former teammate. Moulds threatened not to come out for the second half. The Dolphins ultimately won with a furious comeback.

maybe the bills slow starts within games, will also translate to slow starts to the season. maybe they are just warming up to blow outs and will know how to win the big one!!
