Bears release Moore, agree to terms with Barnard

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) -- The Chicago Bears released safety Damon Moore on Tuesday and also agreed to terms with Brooks Barnard, an undrafted free agent punter.

Moore played in six games for the Bears last year. He was suspended for the first four games of the season for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy, and missed another six recovering from a knee injury. He was put on the active roster on Nov. 1.

Barnard averaged 43.1 yards per punt last season at Maryland, earning all-Atlantic Coast Conference honors. His longest punt was 60 yards, and he had 13 inside the 20.

Barnard ranked fourth in the nation in 2000, when he averaged 44.7 yards.
