Cardinals' Pace: Can't wait to start making plays

(April 27, 2003) -- First-round draft pick Calvin Pace, a defensive end out of Wake Forest, took a few minutes with NFL.com to share his feelings on being drafted 18th overall by the Arizona Cardinals.

What do you think about going to Arizona after Terrell Suggs had been expected to go there?

I'm happy to go. I don't see it as any extra pressure that they didn't pick Terrell Suggs. I know there are questions about that, but I'm happy to be out there. I think they feel confident of what I can bring to the team.

Were you surprised to be chosen so early?

Honestly, I knew the Cardinals had some interest and that it was a question of whether they were going to take Suggs. When I saw them trade down, I thought maybe it could happen at 17or 18. I got the call and things worked out for the better. Some other teams had interest in the first round between about 20 and 30 and I thought it might happen, but so many different trades happened and things got shaken up.
