    Gonzo's salary cap hit

First, for those who have sent me PMs, I do appreciate it that you look my way for some inside info, but at this time I have no more than what anyone else here has. Of course, I have put out several calls and emails to both local and national people that may know some some things. If and when they tell me anything, I'll let everyone know. But it probably will be reported publicly very quickly if it were to happen.

Anyway, I did get some nswers on Gonzo's salary cap hit if he were to be traded. He signed a 5 year/$35 mil deal a couple years ago. However, $17.75 mil was in guarantees.

His new team would be responsible for only his base salary, which is:
2008: $1 million (whatever is remaining for the season),
    2009: $4 million,
    2010: $4.5 million,
    2011: $5.75 million

I also read somewhere that some of the deal is guarenteed for salary too, so there might be a hit in future years if he is cut.

a total of about 2.5 mil a year for this and next, ain't too shabby if he's productive. A guaranteed contract would hurt.

the only position that hits the wall faster than TE is RB. im pretty sure gonzo would be good for a couple more years but you would have to be nervous about where his production would be after that
