Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio took exception to a critical assessment of Byron Leftwich by ESPN analyst Ron Jaworski yesterday.
Jaworski, a former longtime NFL quarterback, used video of Leftwich to show why he thinks the Jaguars' first-round pick waits too long to throw. Jaworski also said Leftwich needlessly pats the ball with his left hand before releasing.
The videotape Jaworski used was from Leftwich's workout for pro scouts earlier this month, and Leftwich was not in pads.
"I can't wait to talk to Jaws about that," Del Rio said yesterday. "It was a great point for TV, but you were watching a guy playing catch. There was no pass rush. We're very comfortable with Byron's ability to get rid of the ball, and I know a lot of great quarterbacks that like to pat that ball."
