A league source tells us that defensive tackle (http://www.profootballtalk.com/2008/10/15/mccargo-fails-physical/#) John McCargo has failed his physical in Indianapolis, voiding the trade that sent the 2006 first-rounder from the Bills to the Colts for a fourth-round pick and a half-eaten Kit Kat....

Profootballtalk.com reports that John McCargo has failed his physical with the Colts and will return to the Bills after Indianapolis tried to acquire him for a fourth-round pick Tuesday. McCargo has a bulging disc in his back. He was on the injury report early this season with a back issue. Indianapolis will resume playing linebackers at defensive tackle and pose a good matchup for opposing RBs. At least they get their pick back. McCargo will return to the basement of Buffalo's depth chart.

Again we act like these are little children. They are adults and it is their job. If he doesnt give full effort he wont be in the league much longer.

I'd imagine they'll just throw him on IR. Didnt peerless have the same injury before they put him on IR last year?

I believe he had a neck injury, not sure exactly what it was though.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Defensive tackle John McCargo (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/player/401273) wanted a fresh start. He won't get it with the Indianapolis Colts (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/team/67048).

McCargo failed his physical, voiding the trade that sent him from the Bills (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/team/67039) to the Colts (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/team/67048) and sending his rights back to the Bills (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/team/67039), Colts (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/team/67048) spokesman Craig Kelley confirmed Wednesday night. The Buffalo News, citing two league sources, reported on its Web site that the Colts (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/team/67048) found a bulging disc in his back, a detail Kelley could not confirm.

It was a stark contrast to the way Wednesday started, with Colts (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/team/67048) coach Tony Dungy welcoming the addition of McCargo and talking about how a new system could make him more effective than he was in Buffalo.

The collapse of the deal creates an awkward situation for all three parties.

Indianapolis had already waived defensive tackle LaJuan Ramsey (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=9790), and Dungy said Wednesday the team was looking for an upgrade at defensive tackle. Indy had already allowed four running backs to top 100 yards this season and ranks 29th in the league against the run.

Meanwhile, in Buffalo, Bills coach Dick Jauron was asked Wednesday afternoon whether he considered McCargo a disappointment.

"There's certainly no benefit in me talking about it further than that to say I thought it was in our best interest and his, and we'll let it go," Jauron said. "We'll wish him the very best. He's with what we'd like to think is another good organization and a good football team."

McCargo wasn't much more forgiving.

"I think it's a better situation than what I was in," he said.

Why would they do this? McCargo never failed a physical with us. He can still play as far as I know ...

I see one of 2 things happening:

1. We cut him now.
2. (More Probable) We leave him on the active roster, scratch him for most games, but call on him if any of our top 3 DTs get injured.

What benefits do we have by putting him on IR now?

Oaf
10-15-2008, 10:37 PM
I say play him. We've got nothing to lose. If he sucks, then we release him, I'll bet no one will give him a real shot again. He's really playing for his career.

Can't believe we lost out on that pick though.

i know. just saying its gotta be hard. imagine going back to your job after you were fired bc the boss thought an intern would be good at filling your position but the intern decided not to take the job so they let you back? gotta be hard working when you feel like one foot is out the door.

Did the doctor check McCargo's pockets after the diagnosis? That bulge could have been nothing more than a half eaten sub and a handful of fries with gravy.

Just a thought, but could the bulging disk be causing McCargo some problems which affect his play?

Eric Flowers > John McCargo

Even though Flowers was a bust he tried hard. McCargo is a lazy gutless player.

That's silly.

Lecter's dead relatives > Erik Flowers

The failing of the physical had nothing to do with conditioning. It is an injury.

Your pinky has more skills than Erik Flowers.

Also we can't be certain what made him fail the physical. If it was the injury then why the hell was he on our playing roster since he was hurt? There is something that is not adding up here.

Different teams have different standards for passing physicals.

Dick Jauron was just on 97 Rock (every Thursday at 7:45 AM) and he was asked about this. He said he comes back and will just be placed back on the roster. But we all know things can change.

Do teams give players a physical when they are trading them? Seems like they wouldn't until after the deal was done, just so that player wouldn't know what was up.

Do teams give players a physical when they are trading them? Seems like they wouldn't until after the deal was done, just so that player wouldn't know what was up.

All deals (FA contracts, trades) are contingent on players passing a physical. If the team doctors say that the player fails the physical, the deal is voided.

I think the only exception is draft picks, when all physicals are given prior to draft day. I'm not sure what happens if a player is drafted and later fails a 2nd physical (or if a 2nd physical is even given).

I don't think physicals are given prior to the deal in any other case. The interested team probably just reviews the official NFL injury report.
