End of the Melvin Fowler era?

By Chris Brown - Posted October 16th, 2008
Aaron Schobel and Melvin Fowler are not practicing. Schobel is still in the walking boot.
Duke Preston is getting reps with the first unit in place of Fowler. Fowler did not participate in practice during the bye week, but did practice fully Monday and Wednesday.
Terrence McGee appears limited as he was going through individual drills. It’s a pads practice today and McGee was not in pads, so he’s not expected to do much.
And as I blogged previously John McCargo is back with the team practicing.

Preston better have the best game of his life if he starts!

Trading in one bum for another.

They both suck, Preston has proved that, its not like's a good prospect who's never had a shot.

Center= Priority #1 to me this offseason.

What is wrong with Fowler (other than him getting blown up by the DT quite too often)? I must have missed the injury report?

He deserves a chance, especially at center, and won't get driven back every play like Fowler. He might be just what this line needs to get going in the run game as well.

If Preston was any better he would've been starting over Fowler a long time ago. I'm worried for Trent and the team.

Looks like Fowler is getting demoted. He didnt practice last week but he practiced Monday and Wednesday yet Preston is still working with the first unit. After watching the footage of the massacre he had against Arizona the coaching staff probably had no choice.

in times of adversity, you either step up or fall apart. hopefully The Duke takes to the call and plays the game of his life.

The only good news is that Duke is a better center than he is guard.

Of course, that is faint praise indeed.

                        true true.

Just pointing out that pinkdogg = scared of that matchup more than any other.

I dont know much about Preston. Could he be more stout vs. DT's than Fowler?

At least Preston has better size than Fowler. 6'5 326 and Fowler is 6'3 310. I think we pass the Cowboys for biggest OL in the NFL with the addition of Dukie Bear.

We were bigger before. They may have started the year bigger, but that was before Peters returned.
