What's the word on Ko Simpson?

He was MIA. Wasn't he active? Has he been benched for Wilson? I saw him more than Ko out there. I know the Bills used a lot of the Whitner/Scott combo with the more physical Scott matching up on Gates (and succeeding IMO), which leads to another Q. Is Whitner a liability in coverage? I may tend to say yes.

    Maybe the opposite.

Re: What's the word on Ko Simpson?

I've been proposing this since early last year.

Whitner at Free Safety would be a better fit for him, IMO. The problem was that we had no viable Strong Safety to fill the void. If Scott can step up at SS, Whitner can move permanently to the Free Safety position.

And yes, the Bills are unhappy with Ko Simpson. Before the season began, the Bills pursued Marlon McCree and thought about moving Whitner to FS. But they decided to pass on McCree.

Chris Brown has mentioned the possibility of Simpson being demoted on more than 1 occasion.

Simpson may have been benched. At the stadium I noticed Simpson was on the field for one special teams play and he may have been on the field for more, but i didnt really check. Part of it maybe due to injury, but it seems odd that he would take snaps on Special teams and not defense

I don't understand it. I've always liked Ko and thought he played well when given a chance. Maybe the coaches see something in George Wilson that I don't.....

I certainly love Scotts play, plus he's a real positive on ST's.

Simpson is also recovering from an injury. Jauron said they wanted Scott out there so there was more size.

As for Whitner, I doubt he is a liability in coverage, as he spent his time covering WRs.

Read the BB.com article it will explain why Whitner was being rotated all over the field and why Scott was in place of Simpson.

Defensive coordinator Perry Fewell sat down free safety Ko Simpson, who was still bothered by a hamstring injury, and moved Donte Whitner from strong safety to free. He then inserted Scott at strong and told him Gates was his responsibility.

Thanks for the clear up on Whitner. So Simpson played ST, but not defense due to injury? Interesting.. Can anyone give me their thoughts on Wilson's performance when he was at FS instead of Whitner?

Wilson did fine, but most of the game was Whitner at FS and Scott as SS.

Since Rivers only threw for 208 yards with an inconsistent pass rush, I think the DBs did pretty well. Even McKelvin, with the exception of one or two plays was doing pretty good.

No Simpson wasnt on the field bc they wanted the bigger body (Scott) jamming Antonio Gates at the line of scrimmage.
