Veteran offensive lineman Wally Williams was released by the Saints on Wednesday, ending a four-year association with the team.
Williams' release coincides with news that he has been suspended for one year by the NFL for violating the league's drug policy, according to sources familiar with the situation.
The league office has notified the team and player of its decision, the sources said.
Williams, who was suspended for four games last season after testing positive a second time, could not be reached for comment.
