    Millen breaks down Lions' draft haul

    You couldn't beat the Baltimore Ravens in this year's NFL Draft, but the Detroit Lions tried. With almost every choice they gained value — from Michigan State wide receiver Charles Rogers in the first round to Wisconsin tackle Ben Johnson in the seventh round — and when the weekend was over the Lions gained a raft of starters and potential starters.

    Let's see, they took the best receiver in the draft. And the best linebacker. One of the top running backs. The most productive wide receiver anywhere. A starting Big Ten tackle. I think I'll stop right there.

    "Everyone always feels good about the draft immediately after it's over," Detroit president and CEO Matt Millen said. "But you never know. Let's talk about it two years from now."

    No, let's talk about it now. I don't know how the Lions did it, but I sure want to find out. Which is why I had Millen go over each round, each pick, to explain the options, the decisions and the players they chose. This is his story:
