OXBOROUGH - Dressed in a sharp three-button suit, Ty Warren, the Patriots' No. 1 draft choice from Texas A&M, was escorted on to the Gillette Stadium field by Patriots owners Robert and Jonathan Kraft, who presented him with the traditional No. 1 Patriots jersey as he looked around his New England home.

''This is nice,'' said Warren, selected 13th overall. ''It must be wild when it's all filled.''

You'll know soon enough, Ty.

The Patriots, who will host a minicamp for their 10 draft choices as well as 16 rookie free agents this weekend, will begin a strength and conditioning program for Warren. The Patriots would love for him to be a quick study and insert his massive 6-foot-4-inch, 307-pound body smack in the middle of their 3-4 defense.

Warren met Patriots linemen Jarvis Green, Willie McGinest, and Richard Seymour yesterday, and has been well versed in the Patriots system.
