FOXBORO, Mass. -- Dressed in a light gray suit and accompanied by owner Bob Kraft, Patriots No.1 draft choice Ty Warren had his first look at Gillette Stadium on a cool and windy Thursday. Now, wouldn't a guy who has lived all of his 22 years in Texas, and never been to New England, find this a bit frigid for May 1?

"No, I like it like this," Warren said.

Standing on a black rectangular riser, Warren dutifully held up the No.1 jersey with his name on it provided for the occasion, then stood on the green stadium grass while several dozen microphones and cameras were thrust near his face.

Today, Warren, the other nine draft choices and a group of rookie free agents will start a three-day rookie minicamp. Although it's unlikely the 6-foot-4, 307-pound Warren will reveal much about his ultimate worth this weekend, he will be the subject of much scrutiny. The Patriots picked him 13th in the first round, the fifth defensive tackle selected, but many scouting services rated Warren a late first- to mid second-round pick. There were questions about his work ethic and durability after a Texas A&M career that included 131/2 sacks and 40 tackles for minus yardage in four seasons when he alternated between tackle and end.
