Bills Worry about Henry's Poor Judgements

While there was talk about Brett Favre's possible retirement, expect the QB to play for a few more years.

One of the more interesting reversals of the week was the about-face that Buffalo Bills tailback Travis Henry did on his position regarding the team's pick of Willis McGahee with the 23rd overall choice in the draft. Henry's initial reaction, certainly made out of frustration and bewilderment, was that the addition of McGahee was "a slap in the face" to him. After all, Henry rushed for 1,438 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2002, and clearly established himself as one of the league's best young backs.

By the end of the week, Henry had tempered his remarks considerably, and acknowledged the gamble by Bills general manager Tom Donahoe was an excellent one. And there's little doubt, even if McGahee never makes it onto the field this year (a distinct possibility, with Donahoe, given his prudence), the Bills made a wise call. One reason why: While he has matured much in the past year, Buffalo officials still worry some about Henry, and about some of his past poor judgments. The club recently signed him to a one-year extension, through the 2005 season, basically because Henry didn't have enough money to make it through the offseason. So he pocketed a $300,000 signing bonus, which ought to get him through training camp, and added a year to his original deal, at a team-friendly base salary of $1.25 million. Donahoe is nobody's fool. He knows that if McGahee rehabilitates his left knee, and becomes the player everyone felt he could be prior to the catastrophic injury, he will have a sweet situation. Two tremendous young backs. A superb 1-2 punch, each with a different running style, to confound AFC East defensive coordinators. Or, perhaps, one young and productive tailback to dangle in trade talks somewhere down the road.
They signed him to an extension because he was short on money! What is TH doing? Sounds like TD took advantage of the fact that TH needed more money.

I just noticed it said "$300,000 signing bonus, which ought to get him through training camp." Ought!?! People live on 1/6 of that for a whole year. TH needs to mature a little more. Great guy on the field but he sure does some questionable stuff off of it.

The McGahee pick is starting to make more and more sense.

And I also agree Romes about the fact that his $300,000 bonus should be PLENTY for the off season. I managed to live on $500 a week in one of the most expensive cities in the country. What in the world is this guy doing with all the dough??

Didn't Henry try to pick up a 15 year old girl his rookie year too?

My guess is there's a little bit of sarcasm in those statements.

Nope he picked up two 14 year old.

I guess he figured if he added them together they were 28 and legal

It's all starting to make sense now isn't it.

                          hey now wait a minute!!!

those 2 girls told him that they were 19! who cares if they were wearing their junior high school sweat shirts and pulled up on two of the fastest, most powerful 10 speeds on the market.

while i think TD made a smart move by extending his deal i dont see how anyone could classify it as taking advantage of him. first he has an agent and second a 300k signing bonus and an added year to a contract that pays 1.25 million is pretty good.

on another note, i heard that TH has been diagnosed with a learning disability. nonetheless i like him and would hate to have to face him every year ( and certainly not twice a year) But remember at a certain point we have to let any player go. just ask OJ, andre reed, bruce, thurman, darryl talley, wiley and Todd collins

i cant believe you guys are being so damn hard on henry... really i cant.. and it is starting to get irritating..

i think that statement about travis's money is a bit unfounded.. i mean, did travis's agent and accountant just report that to the media?

and even if it is true.. it sickens me that you guys would use that to bring up a mistake that he made as a rookie with the two girls. he slept with one of them, who admitted to the police that she completely lied to travis about her age and told him she was 18. so he might not be that bright, but it is not like he molested a kid. i dont know if you have noticed but there are several young girls who could pass for much older now..

it is just crappy.. you guys wouldnt say that crap about bledsoe.. i know that much..
