Tampa Bay Buccaneers guard Jason Whittle broke his right leg during minicamp Friday and will be in a cast for about a month.
"It was a freak accident, really," coach Jon Gruden said. "He didn't get stepped on. He just turned and stumbled awkwardly as he was running. It was one of those freak plays." Whittle signed a five-year, $8.2 million US contract as a free agent in March after spending the first five years of his career with the New York Giants.
The Bucs expect him to recover in time for the start of training camp in July.
