Watson joins Lions with eye for starting in secondary

    By Len Pasquarelli
    ESPN.com

In instant demand following his release by the Buffalo Bills earlier this week, free agent cornerback Chris Watson has quickly found a new address, with ESPN.com learning that he reached a contract agreement with the Detroit Lions on Saturday evening.

The four-year veteran also had tentative visits arranged with the New England Patriots and the San Francisco 49ers, both of whom regarded him a solid candidate for a "nickel" spot, but enjoyed his meeting with Lions officials and decided he has a chance to start in a Detroit secondary that is still in flux.

Watson, 25, will sign a one-year contract with the Lions, the financial details of which were not yet available.

I forgot how young he is. Only 25. In 2001 I really liked the guy, but last year was just horrible. I'm pretty happy he's going to the Lions, that way I can hope he gets back on track without it having a harmful effect on the Bills.

Man, I thought the Lions were getting better and then they do something like this. Guess it can't hurt to have too many "Punt Catchers" on the team.

Think Len is getting some kickbacks from Chris?

I personally think he can still have a good career. Like HenryRules said he's only 25. Only 4 years in the league, he can still learn new techniques and such to improve his game. He has the size to be a shutdown corner, he only needs to tweek his techniques.

You're right. Watson will be the BEST punt catcher Detriot has ever seen.
