    Rookie QBs spark questions

(May 2, 2003) -- The draft brings hope and promise for many young players, but with that hope and promise comes responsibility… and landmines ahead. In the case of four young quarterbacks, new relationships with their new teams will be an eye-opening experience -- especially in quarterback meetings, where four veterans will be asked to not only lead their respective teams, but also to mentor their potential replacements.

In what has to be the most difficult relationship in sports, young backups are going to be thrust into a world of insecurities and tension. While coaches are trying to teach team camaraderie, players such as Jon Kitna, Mark Brunell, Kordell Stewart and Brad Johnson are fighting for their careers. In the case of Johnson, there will be less tension in Tampa simply because of last season's Super Bowl victory and the fact that Chris Simms fell so far in the draft. Let's take a look and analyze the potential pitfalls for each of these four relationships.
