New England Patriots: They addressed a vital need by selecting nose tackle Ty Warren from Texas A&M in the first round. He was one of the best among the record seven first-round defensive tackles, and a solid value in the 13th spot. His combination of quickness and strength should make him a perfect fit as the man in the middle of New England' three-man front, and allow Bill Belichick even greater flexibility in the chess games he loves to play with his linebackers. Two second-round choices, cornerback Eugene Wilson (Illinois) and receiver Bethel Johnson (Texas A&M), could help this year as well. Besides the extra second-rounder this year, the Patriots also added to their hefty collection of picks through the first four rounds next year.
Seattle Seahawks: Washington State's Marcus Trufant was widely considered the second-best cornerback in the draft after Kansas State's Terence Newman, but it was hardly a wide gap. That was why the Seahawks had to feel great about being able to select Trufant 11th, six spots below where the Dallas Cowboys chose Newman. The Seahawks also bolstered their secondary by taking Arkansas safety Ken Hamlin in the second round. They might have landed a fixture on their offensive line in third-round tackle Wayne Hunter, from Hawaii.
