Hayes injures knee
Wide receiver Donald Hayes, who has worked as the starter opposite Jimmy Smith this spring, underwent an MRI exam last night after injuring his right knee on a pass route in minicamp yesterday morning.

Coach Jack Del Rio said the initial diagnosis was a sprain, although Hayes was carted off the field, put in a cast and later seen walking on crutches.

Hayes was signed as an unrestricted free agent after spending last season with New England. The Jaguars already were unsure of Hayes as a starter, which is why the team spoke with former Miami Dolphins wideout Oronde Gadsden earlier this week.

Jaguars senior vice president of player personnel James Harris confirmed the team is interested in Gadsden but said it has not begun contract talks.

Three veterans sign
The Jaguars signed two veterans -- offensive lineman Jamar Nesbit and defensive back James Trapp -- and re-signed defensive tackle Larry Smith.

All reportedly received one-year contracts for the veterans' minimum salary.
