Word out of Atlanta is that several Falcons veterans don't like the fact that coach Dan Reeves is locking his lips to the rump of quarterback Mike Vick.
Reeves and other members of the organization have made excuses for Vick's failure to participate in offseason drills, applying a far different standard to the superstar quarterback than to the other grunts and scrubs who've been diligent in their efforts to get ready for the 2003 season.
There's a belief among the veteran players that management needs to show some tough love to Vick, whose heart was questioned at times during the 2002 season. Indeed, some of the vets think that Vick is soft.
As we've previously said, the resentment that the current situation is breeding in Atlanta could hurt the team during the season. At a time when the sum of the parts can, under the right circumstances, achieve much more than the raw abilities of the players would suggest, the Falcons could be setting the table for a season of underachievement, regardless of the apparent gains that have been made on paper.
