Last season, the N.F.L. players union commissioned the Wharton Sports Business Initiative at the University of Pennsylvania to conduct an unprecedented survey of players. About 80% of the NFL players answered their questions, which is a lot.

They were asked several questions. Two of which were:

1. Which head coach would you MOST like to play for?
2. Which head coach would you LEAST like to play for?

Here are the results (remember, survey done last year. Last year's fired coaches are included. 2008 new coaches are not):

Coach they'd MOST like to play for
1 Tony Dungy
2 Lovie Smith
3 Bill Belichick
4 Herman Edwards
5 Mike Shanahan
6 Wade Phillips
7 Mike Shanahan
8 Marvin Lewis
9 Jeff Fisher
10 Mike Holmgren
11 Brian Billick
12Tie Andy Reid
12Tie Jon Gruden
14 Sean Payton
15 Joe Gibbs
16 John Fox
17 Jack Del Rio
18 Gary Kubiak
19 Mike Nolan
20 Mike McCarhy
21 Dick Jauron
22 Romeo Crennel
23 Ken Whisenhunt
24 Rod Marinelli
25 Norv Turner
26 Cam Cameron
27 Bobby Petrino
28 Brad Childress
29 Lane Kiffin
30 Scott Linehan
31 Tom Coughlin
32 Eric Mangini

Coach they'd LEAST like to play for:
1 Tom Coughlin
2 Eric Mangini
3 Jon Gruden
4 Bobby Petrino
5 Bill Belichick
6 Norv Turner
7 Cam Cameron
8 Lane Kiffin
9 Joe Gibbs
10 Brian Billick
11 Dick Jauron
12 Brad Childress
13 Rod Marinelli
14 Jack Del Rio
15 Scott Linehan
16 Sean Payton
17Tie Andy Reid
17Tie Romeo Crennel
19 Mike Holmgren
20 Mike Nolan
21 Mike Shanahan
22 Marvin Lewis
23 Ken Whisenhunt
24 Herm Edwards
25 John Fox
26 Gary Kubiak
27 Mike Tomlin
28 Jeff Fisher
29 Wade Phillips
30 Lovie Smith
31 Tony Dungy

Interesting that Belichick was the only coach in the top-5 of BOTH "most want to play for" and "least want to play for." Shows you how polarizing he is to players, as well.

I'll update some more info in a minute, but in the meantime, here are all the results you can view for yourself. There's a lot more than just this stuff in there:

ya, because Wade is doing SUCH a great job down there. Without Romo, the Boys were worse than us.

That being said, idk if I'd rather have Wade or Dicky-Poo right now.

i like where mangini is........ he has a reputation of being a hardass...... but considering the results he's had, even including last years debacle....... i think its safe to say he might last longer in jersey than herm did.

herm's always had the reputation of being a "players coach" but just because you're not a hard ass on hte players doesnt mean squat. if you don't produce wins, it just shows who really has control of the team?

but suffice it to say, considering this is during last years season, maybe they are basing it on the fact we went 4-12 that year, where as you guys had the high expectations heading into the next season?

Really? They still beat a quality team without Romo, when was the last time the Bills beat a quality team? By the way, Romo is back and life is good down here.

Helen Keller would be a better coach then Jauron so that is not even a fair comparison.

To be fair, she could also see the open receivers better than Trent.
