Turk was upstairs in the box today

Considering how well the offense performed, I'd obviously keep him there.

Absolutely... if, on some odd chance, that was the problem, then definitely keep him there. In fact, we might want to put him in the Goodyear blimp for the 49ers game!

He probably requested to be up there because they knew we were going to "run up the score" and he didn't want to risk getting punched out by Gunther.

I'm not so sure about the advantages of an OC being on the sideline, but even as a layman with no football training, I can imagine that to a trained eye, it must be a whole lot easier to see what defenses are doing, concept wise when you can see the whole thing at once, ie. from upstairs in the box.

I think it was definitely a factor but not the only one. I couldn't help but notice the offense had a different "feel" this game. I couldn't put my finger on it (maybe because I was happy as pie about the score) except that I noticed they weren't moving Lee around as much. Trent confirmed in his post-game interview that they ran a "vanilla" offense this game with a lot less shifts and motions.

Re: Turk was upstairs in the box today

The cbs team wasn't sure what was going on. When they were talking about Turk in the 3rd they zoomed in on Van Pelt. Then on the next drive they zoomed in on the booth.
I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?"
"Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet.
You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times."
                  It was all
true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach.
He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can
mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

Don't most new coordinators opt to be in the booth nowadays anyway? I was surprised actually that he started out on the sidelines. I would have thought the it was really only the "veteran" coordinators who stayed on the sidelines because that's what they're used to. But I would think that for a new coordinator, having a view of the entire field would be an advantage I would want from the out-set.

In the end, I don't think having turk in the box or on the sidelines is going to make much of a difference - playing KC every week, however, might.

I wish none of these coaches were on the sidelines.

Can we put them all up in the booth & let the midget trainer motivate them ?

upstairs is where he needs to be. It would be a lot harder to dissect the opposing D's at field level IMO...
