Leodis in running for Defensive ROY?

    Defensive Rookie of the Year

    1. Jerod Mayo, LB, Patriots (1): The rookie stalwart continues to gobble up runners at a stunning rate. Mayo leads all rookies in tackles (89) and ranks as the league's seventh-leading tackler.
    2. Curtis Lofton, LB, Falcons (2): The Falcons' standout is spearheading a defense that is coming up with timely stops at key moments.
    3. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (NR): The Cards may have discovered their "shut down" corner in Rodgers-Cromartie. He has 15 passes defensed and two interceptions in only six starts.
    4. Chris Horton, S, Redskins (3): He has been supplanted in the starting lineup but remains a key contributor on the 'Skins' third-ranked defense. His three interceptions lead the team and are the most by any rookie defender.
    5. Leodis McKelvin, CB, Bills (NR): The dynamite dual threat made quite a statement with two interceptions in his second start, including a dazzling 64-yard "pick six" in the second quarter. He also returned a kickoff 46 yards, leading to another score. He's made six returns over 40 yards, pushing his league-leading average to 29.1 yards a return (the most of any returner with over 20 attempts).

I have real high hopes for this kid, he has been stepping up lately, and he seems to be learning and being around the ball more, which we need. Also, remember when people were questioning his hands? He seems to catch the ball OK, 2 tough catches against the Chiefs are my only real evidence but im excited. More excited than I was about him 5 weeks ago, thats for sure.

I don't see how one good week can determine an award given out for the whole season. If he were to continue on this pace I could see it.

I agree that Mayo probably should, and probably will, win. I think Leodis' ST contributions have lent to this ranking as well, even though it is a defensive category.

Leodis missed too much of the first half of the season to be considered seriously for Defensive ROY.
Should have known, way back in 1960 when we drafted Richie Lucas Number 1, that this would be a long, hard ride. But who could have known it would be THIS bad?

also, a lot of that write-up talks about his KR abilities. While his KR abilities are very useful to this team, it's not a defensive play and shouldn't be a factor for Defensive ROY.

Even if a player plays ST's most of the time, he is still designated to either offense or defense. Ofcourse his contribution on ST's matters.
