TAMPA - Second-round draft pick Dewayne White will be counted on to put heat on the quarterback. But it was the Louisville rookie defensive end who felt the temperature rising Sunday.

White and Southern Cal free-agent defensive lineman Bernard Riley were unable to complete a series of 55-yard sprints that concluded minicamp.

"It's just something we've done recently. It's a point of emphasis for our rookie players," coach Jon Gruden said. "It's not even warm here in Tampa yet. I mean, this is like a freezing cold day. Hell, I've been out there in Orlando where I saw three people melt in the stands last year.

"Some of these guys better get down here and get acclimated to the heat. And if you're going to play defensive line here for Rod Marinelli and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, you'd better be training like a defensive back or a wide receiver. Because we are going to run to the ball until the game is over. Hopefully, some of those guys understand that."
